Professional Equipment for Unattended Measurement of Mobile Communication Networks

The Autonomous Coverage Tester ACT is an unattended measurement system for GSM, GPRS and UMTS networks. It consists of one or several mobile test unit(s) ("Black Boxes", see photo), typically deployed in cars, busses, trains, taxies or other vehicles. A fleet manager provides measurement control and data handling, including fully automated central storage and post-processing. The ACT system supports testing of speech services (including speech quality assessment according to ITU-T) as well as all popular Internet services (e.g. web browsing, FTP, e-Mail, WAP, Web Radio).

Highlights

  • Extremely rugged mobile units designed to operate under adverse environmental conditions. Sophisticated self-test and self-configuration technology.
  • Fully programmable measurement activities, including position-and velocity sensitive control. Intelligent power management including internal battery backup.
  • Fast and secure data transfer to host (both circuit-switched and Internet-based transfer supported) - Callback technique for maximum security against unauthorized access - Secure data transfer
  • Data compression and file segmentation optimises cost and time of data transfer
  • Excellent long-term investment value through modular, upgradable design

Applications

  • The ACT system is a means to provide high-quality measurement data for Routine network quality monitoring
  • Network optimization
  • Troubleshooting
  • Speech (including ITU-T P 862.1 speech quality)

Key Features

  • Provides automatic operation throughout the whole chain of data acquisition, transfer, storage, pre-evaluation and visualization (by means of 3GMA, FIMAS, RCV)
  • Activities are fully programmable
  • Fleet manager to define measurement jobs and store measurement data
  • Full remote control over the air interface: definition of activities, data transfer, software update
  • Mobile test units are extremely rugged
  • Modular design ensures long system lifetime by upgrading to new UE types
