ONT Quick BERT

Total network qualification at a glance

Beginners will appreciate the new Quick BERT functionality implemented with the ONT. This function provides a quick, but clear status report of all lines connected in parallel to the instrument (via the SDH/SONET interfaces), making it an ideal tool for the analysis of multi-port applications, like DWDM. The alarms and errors of each line are analyzed and a clear graphical PASS/FAIL indication is given as a result. The Quick BERT application (BOOK) is available as standard with all SDH/SONET modules:

  • OC-12/ STM-1 line interface module:
    interfaces: OC-3/ STM-1
    SDH  mappings: AU-3, VC-3
    SONET mappings: STS-1

  • OC-48/ STM-16 line interface module:
    interfaces: OC-48/ STM-16, OC-12/ STM-4, OC-3/ STM-1
    SDH mappings: AU-3:VC-3, AU-4.VC-4, VC4-4c/ 16c
    SONET mappings: STS-1, STS-3c, STC-12c, STS-48c

  • OC-192/ STM-64 module:
    interface: OC-192/ STM-64
    SDH mappings: AU-3:VC-3, AU-4.VC-4, VC4-4c/ 16c, VC-64c
    SONET mappings: STS-1, STS-3c, STC-12c, STS-48c, STS-192c, STS-192c

For in depth analysis incl. pointer processing and overhead evaluation SDH/SONET Expert Analyzer functionality is available as well.

Key Features:

  • Clear PASS / FAIL status indication

  • Summary result (user defined)

  • Error insertion (B1, B2, B3, bit error: single)

  • Message insertion (regenerator/section trace (J0), MUX section line (J1))

  • Error measurement (B1, B2, B3, bit error) and alarm detection (LOS, LOF and standard SONET/SDH alarms)
