Overview

Fiber characterization is a comprehensive suite of point-to-point physical layer optical tests that verifies the integrity and capacity of the fiber plant and ensures that network speeds are tested consistently across the entirety of an operator's network from fiber-to-fiber and from location-to-location. Properly qualifying the fiber network and plant can reduce operating expenses while adding new, revenue generating services.

In this session, you will hear:

  • How to characterize the fiber link and the fiber network
  • Why consistent fiber characterization across entire network is critical
  • Which tests must be performed and why
  • The differences between fiber characterization and network characterization
  • Why performing fiber characterization tests help reduce operating expenses
