Communications Test & Measurement
JDSU's Xgig Analysis and Test Platform for FCoE is the industry's first tool for comprehensively testing the most recent standard proposals for Fibre Channel over Ethernet. Xgig's multi-protocol platform provides a unique mechanism to monitor and analyze traffic as it passes through different protocol domains by uniting different analyzer port identities under the same time sync domain. For FCoE networks where the Fibre Channel network connects to the Ethernet network and merges with other types of traffic, this is the ideal tool for analyzing the transition between FC and Ethernet.
The Xgig Analysis and Test Platform for FCoE also enables users to measure the impact on performance of native FC networks in a converged environment and is unique in its ability to address FCoE protocol issues such as real-time monitoring and flagging CRC errors on both the Ethernet packet and embedded Fibre Channel frame. With its hardware-based analysis that is protocol-aware for both Fibre Channel and Ethernet, it is the only tool on the market capable of analyzing mixed protocols in the same time domain as well as monitoring FCoE traffic data integrity in real-time.
The Xgig FCoE Load Tester forms the cornerstone for verifying performance, data integrity, scalability, network robustness, and equipment interoperability of FCoE equipment, giving users complete flexibility and visibility into FCoE traffic when used with the Xgig FCoE Analyzer. Simulating a real FCoE network eliminates the need for expensive servers and extensive storage arrays, resulting in significant savings in terms of rack space, power, cabling, and equipment cost. Users can also measure network reliability with the Xgig FCoE BERT and confirm robustness using the Xgig FCoE Jammer. The Load Tester, BERT, and Jammer are available on the Xgig FCoE Analyzer blade and require no hardware changes to use. No other platform provides as complete a test suite for FCoE, all built on a single platform.
For example, users can burst FCoE and Fibre Channel frames into an FCoE switch from the Xgig Load Tester while at the same time using JDSU's Medusa Lab Test Tools (MLTT) to drive real, high IOPS traffic from the host side to the target across the fabric (see figure below). When problems are detected by the Load Tester, MLTT, or the Analyzer itself, Xgig Analyzer ports positioned inline capture the real-time traffic required to identify, locate, and resolve errors. In addition, users can direct the Xgig Jammer to inject errors into traffic to emulate network "corner behavior" to verify network performance and robustness.
