Tools from JDSU Put Broadband to the Test

Broadband@Work Across America is an initiative sponsored by JDSU to raise awareness and provide education on the technical issues and challenges that could impact rural service providers as they deploy broadband services.

The 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will provide $7.2 billion to accelerate broadband service deployment to rural and underserved regions in the nation. Whether providers use the funds to deploy FTTH, DSL, or HFC, a common need is clear: the ability to cost effectively build out networks and reliably deliver new services.

This is where JDSU can help. As a leader in broadband network test and measurement solutions, we have tools and expertise providers can rely on to install, test, and verify networks and services. We’re the partner to get broadband roll-out right the first time. With JDSU solutions providers can deliver reliable service and keep operations costs low.

Based on decades of experience working with large and small telecom service providers, cable operators, utilities, municipalities and network equipment manufacturers, Broadband@Work Across America reflects JDSU’s thorough understanding of broadband service delivery.

From building new broadband access networks, knowing what can go wrong, detecting common problems, fixing network and installation issues and ensuring reliable service.  Here’s a sampling of the areas where JDSU can share insight:

  • Installing Fiber: Dirt contaminates the line and can damage equipment – what do you do?
  • Deploying Ethernet Equipment: Configuration errors in Ethernet switches and routers lead to frame loss and delay – what is the best approach?
  • Identifying and Solving DSL Service Problems: Wideband and impulse noise impairments impede service quality – is there a way to remedy?
  • Processing Video: Signal delays can cause synchronization issues for video and its audio timing – are there methods to prevent this?
  • Installing Cable Modem Service with Margin: Leaving the home without conducting proper tests can cause data service problems later resulting in customer dissatisfaction and repeat truck rolls – what are the best practices?
