JDSU’s Test-Um Acquisition
Today’s growing number of broadband-connected homes and networked devices has increased the importance of conducting home network testing. With its acquisition of Test-Um, JDSU will further strengthen its already robust portfolio with test sets used to verify, install, and maintain Category 3, Category 5, and coaxial cables and wireless networks in home and businesses.
Test-Um is known for designing and manufacturing world-class Test, Talk and Trace products that help providers take advantage of new technologies and services. To ensure triple-play services perform optimally, providers must validate and certify that core and access networks as well as home wiring can support high speeds, high bandwidth, Ethernet, and IP-based triple-play services. This means that higher level tests such as certification testing become mandatory as the complexities and speeds of new services compound the number and severity of problems caused by cable faults and improper home wiring.
With Test-Um’s “three-wire” and wireless test instruments, providers can efficiently install and verify that home/office wiring supports the reliable delivery of high-bandwidth voice, data, and video services throughout the premises. Other instruments include test sets for verifying line conditions and power-signal levels; wireless testers to identify and qualify 802.11 networks; tone tracers that identify, locate, and track cable runs; and analyzers for more advanced service troubleshooting and certification.
By combining forces, Test-Um and JDSU give providers a single point of contact for test and measurement products that validate, verify, and certify the core and access networks as well as home wiring can support VoIP, IPTV, and other services. Access to a comprehensive portfolio with extensive test and measurement capabilities enable providers to promise and deliver the highest levels of performance.
