First portable 40 43G
Presently 40 is the fastest transmission rate for SONET/SDH networks and 43G on the OTN is on the horizon. Although it is in the early stages of deployment, the technology has experienced accelerated growth in the core network to accommodate the widespread introduction of triple-play services. With 40/43G networks, operators can enhance the transport capacity in the optical network, distances between systems, and the flexibility and responsiveness of new high-bandwidth services.
In response to the growing number of high-speed video, voice, and data services running on networks today, equipment vendors are compelled to operate under a compressed timeline to develop optical transport equipment that support data rates higher than 10G. Designing equipment for new high-bit-rate networks that push the boundaries of physics and demand that every network element is designed, installed, and tuned with extreme precision presents a variety of challenges.
The 40/43G solution for JDSU’s ONT-506 and ONT-512 supports the research and development; service verification testing and production needs of network equipment manufacturers; as well as the equipment verification, installation and maintenance requirements of service providers. The 40/43G solution’s full set of jitter measurement capabilities—jitter generation, jitter tolerance, and jitter transfer—is vital in helping speed up the design, manufacturing, and commissioning of SDH/SONET/OTN systems and in ensuring and maintaining their performance in the network.
The 40/43G solution’s capabilities include measuring concatenated and fully structured signals for SONET OC-768/ SDH STM-256 and OTN OTU-3 (G.709 FEC) with bulk or SONET/SDH client. It also performs unframed 39.813 Gbps and 43.018 Gbps BER testing and complete alarm, error, overhead, and pointer generation and analysis for SONET/SDH and OTN.
Compliance with the ITU-T O.172/O.173 Appendix VII-based calibration procedure using a reference transmitter provides the 40/43G solution with a guaranteed accuracy specification. Additional features of the product’s jitter/wander capabilities include wander analysis of TIE, MTIE, TDEV, frequency offset and drift rate with graphs and built-in masks.
The ONT 506/512 platform is a multifunctional, multiport, and multiuser solution for optical and digital testing during R&D, SVT, and maintenance stages. The instruments are available as rack-mountable and portable mainframes and support a range of plug-in instrument modules for DWDM, SDH, SONET, OTN, EoS, and Ethernet networks, all controlled via an easy-to-use user interface.
