WHAT: JDSU recently played a leading role in two industry forums that underscores the company’s leadership in ensuring that emerging Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) technology evolves effectively by providing engineers with the most comprehensive development and testing tools for verifying the reliability and robustness of Converged FCoE networks.
WHEN: During the SC09 demonstrationsponsored by the Ethernet Alliance, JDSU was the technical lead and was responsible for both designing the network architecture and managing the variety of test metrics used to verify compliance and interoperability.
During the third FCoE plugfestheld by the Fiber Channel Industry Association (FCIA), JDSU was the sole testing tool provider.
WHY: JDSU’s storage network protocol test tools include software and services that focus on a wide range of storage protocols, such as Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, 10GigE, iSCSI, SAS and SATA.
“JDSU has been an important player in all of the FCoE plugfests,” said Chris Lyon, Executive Director of the FCIA. “FCIA appreciates their efforts during plugfest to serve the industry by developing the testing technologies required to verify standards compliance and develop market confidence in FCoE.”
Interoperability is essential to successfully deploying FCoE technology in the field and building a robust tools and equipment ecosystem. In order to verify interoperability, engineers need comprehensive testing tools that enable them to observe equipment behavior under real-world operating conditions. Since the Data Center Bridging (DCB) and FCoE specifications are still evolving, these tools must be specifically designed to progress with the standards in order to enable early developers to conduct functional testing at each of the various protocol draft stages.
“The SC09 demonstration is an important milestone showing that Ethernet provides a robust foundation for converged networks,” said Brad Booth, Ethernet Alliance Chair of the Board. “Thorough testing plays a significant role in proving to the communications industry that manufacturers have developed compliant equipment that can carry a variety of traffic types, like FCoE, reliably over a single Ethernet network.”
Background on the JDSU Xgig platform
As shown at these critical demonstrations for FCoE, the JDSU Xgig platformprovides engineers the ability to capture, generate, and analyze traffic at full data rates while injecting errors to verify compliance to standard specifications. Since equipment from different vendors may not be based on the same specifications, Xgig also concurrently monitors, correlates, and analyzes traffic based on different versions of the specifications. Xgig provides a complete testing platform for facilitating robust product design, expediting verification and testing, and speeding time to market.
