Milpitas, Calif., February 25, 2008 - JDSU today introduced stressed receiver sensitivity (SRS) functionality to its TestPoint 10Gbps product line. SRS is one of the key parameters to ensuring interoperability across 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) and Fiber Channel equipment, a key requirement as 10Gbps networks expand worldwide. The tester will be on display at OFC/NFOEC 2008 in San Diego, California, February 26-28 (booth #2021, Hall C).
Stressed receiver sensitivity is IEEE's requirement for 10 GigE receivers to function properly in the presence of optical signals that contain impairment such as vertical eye closure and jitter. Without compliance to this requirement, it is impractical to plan a link between two 10 GigE interfaces. The JDSU TestPoint 10Gbps with SRS tests a receiver's compliance to the standard, supporting both unframed and framed test patterns (with SRS it provides transponder testing in unframed environments and system and line card testing in framed protocol environments). The TestPoint 10Gbps is also the only solution to provide stress injection in intrusive monitor mode. In this mode, the physical properties of the signal are impaired while traffic or test patterns are unimpeded.
"The surge in 10 Gigabit Ethernet and the expectation of flawless service mean equipment manufacturers and carriers require a dependable test solution that meets the challenges associated with the global growth of this enabling technology," said Randy Gill, general manager for the TestPoint product line in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "With SRS, the TestPoint 10Gbps provides the market with a highly integrated, simple and compact instrument designed to meet the demanding needs of both carriers and equipment manufacturers confronted by the complex challenges of deploying 10 GigE."
Additional features of the TestPoint 10Gbps include support for nine line rates, including 10 GigE LAN/WAN, 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel, and six OTN line rates; a factory-calibrated, one-box solution with a built-in self-test procedure, simplifying test setup and enabling users to focus on running tests as opposed to calibrating the equipment; and adjustable signal parameters and impairment parameters for in-depth analysis of the device under test (DUT). The product line is also extremely cost effective, especially when considering the integration of SRS, multiple rates, and traffic testing capabilities.
About the JDSU TestPoint 10Gbps Test Solution
As networks evolve to integrate multiple transport technologies such as Ethernet, Fibre Channel, OTN, and SONET/SDH, network equipment manufacturers and service providers require integrated test solutions. The TestPoint 10Gbps provides such integration for service verification testing (SVT) and production environments.
The TestPoint 10Gbps solution specifically addresses test requirements for 10 GigE LAN/WAN, 10G Fibre Channel, OC-192c/STM-64 BERT, and OTN rates including OTU2 and overclocked rates. The 10Gbps is available as a hot swappable module in the TS-30/TS-170 chassis. It is also available as a configuration in the TS-10 chassis.
The TestPoint family of instruments offers one fixed configuration (TS-10) and two scalable chassis configurations (TS-30 and TS-170). The TS-10 is a lightweight unit for bench top and mobile applications. The TS-30 consists of a 3-slot chassis suitable for bench top, rackmount and mobile applications. The TS-170 is a 17-slot system for manufacturing needs. Both the TS-30 and TS-170 chasses support module hot insertion to keep downtime to a minimum and mount into standard 19-inch (47.5cm) rack systems.
