Voice Quality Test Applications (J1986B) (Discontinued)

Voice Quality Tester (VQT) is a comprehensive and objective voice quality test system that provides detailed test and analysis capabilities on modern telephony networks, including VoIP, VoATM, and hybrid circuit/packet networks.

The Voice Quality Tester (VQT) is a comprehensive and objective voice quality test system that provides detailed test and analysis capabilities for voice quality on modern telephony networks, including VoIP, VoATM, and hybrid circuit/packet networks. The VQT enables the design, deployment, and operation of voice services on Next Generation Networks by providing accurate and objective testing of voice quality. It provides robust and reliable measurements that go beyond giving test scores. The VQT provides detailed scoring analysis that exposes the impairments to voice quality. By including testing for voice clarity, delay, echo, silence suppression, DTMF, and signal loss, all on one box, the VQT provides a total solution for testing voice quality on next generation networks.

The VQT supports analog, and Ethernet interfaces to enable testing at different access points for network segmentation and fault isolation. Using different signaling types, including FXO, E&M, CAS, ISDN, SIP, and H.323, the VQT enables testing across any telephony network.

The VQT is at work today assisting engineers and technicians at leading global communications companies.

  • Qualify network deployments for voice services
  • Perform pre-VoIP network assessments
  • Baseline network performance under varying conditions
  • Optimize systems and networks for voice quality
  • Monitor network for voice quality impairments
  • Troubleshoot voice quality impairments
  • Assess network performance against competitor networks and the PSTN
  • Test new prodcuts and designs for voice quality

The VQT addresses the key challenges of deploying voice services on IP telephony networks:

  • Delivering Toll Quality Voice
  • Maintaining voice clarity among many VoIP impairments
  • Minimizing end-to-end delay, to less than 120 msec
  • Detecting and minimizing the effects of echo
  • Troubleshooting voice quality problems in complex hybrid networks
  • Transmitting DTMF tones across VoIP networks
  • Balancing voice quality with network efficiency mechanisms, such as silence suppression and voice compression

Now with distributed test capabilities allowing network professionals to remotely operate multiple VQT test devices anywhere on the network. This remote control capability drastically reduces costly, time-consuming travel requirements, and the need for trained staff working in multiple locations.

Measurements:

  • Speech quality measurements and analysis using PESQ (ITU P.862), PSQM+ (ITU P.861), and PAMS
  • Voice delay measurement and troubleshooting
  • Echo measurement and analysis
  • Silence suppression analysis including VAD front-end clipping and hold-over time
  • Signal loss measurement using noise, tones, and voice DTMF tone distortion measurement and analysis
  • One-click testing on every measurement
  • Testing with over 150 voice samples in nine different languages
  • Remote control of distributed test servers
  • Network simulation and echo generation
  • Tone, noise, and voice sample generation and recording
  • Easy to use - begin testing right out-of-the-box and get results within minutes
  • Detailed test configuration and analysis for troubleshooting
  • Automated Task Lists come pre-configured and easy to modify and create
  • No programming or scripting is required
