CATV systems are evolving from television broadcast networks to WDM bi-directional systems that provide multiple lightpaths per fiber and greatly increase the capacity of a given fiber strand. This increased capacity supports a variety of services including broadcast television, video-on-demand, and high-speed Internet access via cable modems.
JDSU offers a comprehensive line of detectors, modulators, and pump lasers designed specifically for CATV applications.
JDSU photodetectors include analog modules or forward path and return path AM CATV applications. These coaxial modules are optically aligned to optimize performance and balance the parameters of responsivity, distortion and back reflection.
Our high-speed, receptacled photodiode modules feature bandwidths of at least 1 GHz and are designed for peak wavelength response at 1300 and 1550 nm. Standard receptacles available include LC, FC, and SC, and these modules will accept either single mode or multi mode connectorized fiber. JDSU next-generation, small form factor receptacles are up to half the footprint required for LAN interfaces, thereby reducing costs and increasing packing density.
The JDSU CATV band dual-output modulator, with optical power levels to 200 mW, provides flat frequency response and excellent composite second order distortion (CSO) performance. Our APE phase modulators are low loss, simple, and operationally efficient devices for optical chirping, optical delays, and sensors.
For nearly two decades, JDSU has worked with clients to develop application-specific solutions and many of these solutions, at wavelengths from 800 - 1600 nm, are available as specialty products.
Uncooled, multimode pump modules simplify next-generation, high-power erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) designs by eliminating the need for thermoelectric coolers and their control circuitry. ;Our 4900 Series with up to 8 W of optical power from a 105 µm fiber pigtail makes is an ideal solution for CATV high-power EDFA pumping applications. Wavelength selection is available for applications that require the highest performance in spectrum control with the highest available powers.
JDSU pump lasers take advantage of existing global JDSU infrastructure to combine a highly reliable design with cost-effective manufacturing.
