Mirror, Thermal Control, Fused Silica Substrate

Achieve Highest Stability and Best Temperature Control with JDSU Fused Silica Mirrors

JDSU Fused Silica Thermal Control Mirrors, also known as Optical Solar Reflectors (OSR), provide low solar absorption and high thermal emittance to control satellite temperature. Developed by JDSU more than 40 years ago, they have flown on many critical U.S. satellites as well as on numerous international satellites.

Fused silica substrate provides the greatest resistance to radiation-induced darkening and damage in hostile space environments and, at the same time,  re-emits unwanted absorbed heat back into space. Silver is used as the primary coating because it provides optimum solar reflectance. Mirrors with low solar absorption, coupled with high thermal radiation properties, are used to reduce satellite operating temperature and diurnal temperature variations.

JDSU offers dielectric or conductive protective overcoats for solar reflectors.
