Martin A. Kaplan has been a member of the Company's board of directors since October 1997. Kaplan has served as the Chairman of the Board since May 2000. From May 1998 until his retirement in May 2000 after 40 years in the technology industry, Kaplan was Executive Vice President of Pacific Telesis, responsible for integration following the merger of SBC Communications, Inc. and Pacific Telesis Group, followed by the same role for other SBC mergers. From 1986 to 1997, he was Executive Vice President of Pacific Bell and President of Network Services. Kaplan is also a Director of Tekelec and Superconductor Technologies.
Harold L. Covert joined the Company's board in January of 2006. He currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer of Silicon Image, Inc., a provider of semiconductors for storage, distribution and presentation of high-definition content. Prior to joining Silicon Image, Covert was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Openwave Systems, Inc. from 2005 to 2007. Before joining Openwave, Covert was Chief Financial Officer of Extreme Networks. Prior to Extreme, Covert served as Chief Financial Officer at Silicon Graphics, Inc., from July 2000 to July 2001, and as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Adobe Systems, Inc., from 1998 to 2000. Prior to Adobe, he held a variety of positions over the course of over 20 years in the high-technology industry. Covert also serves as a Director of Harmonic Inc and Thermage, Inc.
Bruce D. Day became a member of the Company's board of directors in July 1999, upon the closing of the JDS FITEL/Uniphase merger, and served as a member of the JDS FITEL Board of Directors since 1996. Since 1991, Day has been Vice President of Corporate Development of Rogers Communications Inc., and is principally involved in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and taxation for Rogers Communications Inc. and its subsidiaries.
Kevin DeNuccio joined JDSU's board of directors in December 2005. He currently serves as Vice Chairman at Redback Networks, a wholly owned subsidiary of LM Ericsson, where he served as the President and CEO for eight years. DeNuccio led Redback through a successful financial restructuring, product and market transition, and renewed high growth era. Prior to joining Redback, DeNuccio was senior vice president of worldwide service provider operations for Cisco Systems, Inc. At Cisco, DeNuccio was responsible for all field activities in the service provider marketplace, representing more than $4 billion in revenue and over 4000 employees globally. Prior to his six years at Cisco, he was the founder, president and chief executive officer of Bell Atlantic Network Integration Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Bell Atlantic (now Verizon Communications). DeNuccio has also held senior management positions at both Unisys Corporation and Wang Laboratories.
Masood Jabbar joined JDSU's board of directors in March 2006. Jabbar worked at Sun Microsystems Inc. from 1986 to 2003, where he served in a series of progressively responsible roles including President of the Computer Systems Division, Chief Financial Officer of the $10 billion Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation, and Executive Vice President of Global Sales Operations. Jabbar's career at Sun culminated as Executive Vice President and Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer, where he was responsible for advising the CEO on critical strategic issues. Prior to joining Sun, Jabbar spent ten years in finance and accounting at Xerox Corporation, and two years at IBM Corporation. Jabbar is also a Director of Openwave Systems, Inc., and Silicon Image, Inc.
Kevin Kennedy
Kevin Kennedy became a member of the Company's board in November 2001, and became Chief Executive Officer of the Company in September 2003. From August 2001 to September 2003, Kennedy was the Chief Operating Officer of Openwave Systems, Inc. Prior to joining Openwave Systems Inc. Kennedy served seven years at Cisco Systems, Inc., most recently as Senior Vice President of the Service Provider Line of Business and Software Technologies Division, and 17 years at Bell Laboratories. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Polycom, Inc. and KLA-Tencor Corporation. Kennedy is a member of the Board of Regents of Loyola Marymount University and serves on the Board of Directors of the Canary Foundation.
Richard T. Liebhaber became a member of the Company's board in November 2001. Liebhaber retired as Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of MCI Communications, Inc. ("MCI") in 1995. Prior to joining MCI in 1985, Liebhaber was IBM's Director of Business Policy and Development, after serving in engineering, manufacturing, product test, service and marketing positions. Liebhaber is also a director of Avici Systems, Inc., Cogent Communications and ILOG S.A.
Compensation Committee Chair
Casimir S. Skrzypczak has been a member of the Company's board of directors since July 1997. Skrzypczak was formerly Senior Vice President at Cisco Systems, Inc. Skrzypczak also served as Corporate Vice President and Group President of Professional Services at Telcordia Technologies, Inc. Earlier, Skrzypczak was President, NYNEX Science & Technology, and Vice President, Network & Technology Planning for NYNEX. Skrzypczak has served as a trustee of Polytechnic University since 1987 and is chairman of its Education Committee. Skrzypczak also serves as a director of Sirenza Microdevices Inc. and ECI Telecom Ltd.
