Our Co-op Program is typically available in the following timeframe:

JDSU currently has the following positions available.

Software Engineering Co-Op
Location: Germantown, MD or Salem, VA

Capture a great opportunity to apply your software development skills as a Co-op at JDSU.  Work with a team to design, implement, test, and debug embedded and application software that runs telecom measurement equipment.  This equipment is used to validatenew telecom network equipment (switches, routers), as well as verify the integrity of customer services (Voice, Data, Video). You may participate in the design and architecture reviews that define customer needs and future product enhancement.  We are seeking high-performing students for the Spring/Summer 2009 timeframe.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate education toward a BS in CPE, EE, or CS.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, documenting and implementing C/C++ software (required).
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and abilities.
  • Linux experience preferred.
  • Scripting experience a plus.

Hardware Engineering Co-Op
Location: Germantown, MD

Interested in hardware engineering? Gain real world experience while working as a Co-op at JDSU!  You will work on a product development team to bring a product to market. You will assist with the various stages of the design process such as circuit design and testing, troubleshooting, writing HDL code and testbenches. You will work closely with other engineers, technicians and co-ops to produce a robust and reliable product.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of at least one year of undergraduate education toward a BS in CPE, EE, or CS.
  • Basic knowledge of fundamental electrical engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with FPGA or CPLD programmable logic (e.g. Altera or Xilinx) using HDL coding (Verilog or VHDL) preferred.
  • Familiarity with the use of common lab equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, meters).
  • Familiarity with schematic, PCB layout, and simulation tools (e.g. spice) preferred.
  • Knowledge of data communications and telecommunications protocols and concepts preferred.

Open Source Software Co-Op
Location: Germantown, MD

JDSU seeks a hardworking, enthusiastic student to evaluate and prototype methods to utilize Wireshark command line tools for the development of Tier 1 Ethernet Expert concepts.  He or she will also be responsible for investigating / recommending other potential open source tools. This position will be part-time, lasting 3 months in length.

Work alongside supervisor to develop Python (or equivalent language) prototype UI to demonstrate the ability of Wireshark to produce Tier 1 expert statistics and views from normal PCAP capture files.

Qualifications:

  • Strong competency in Python or other comparable programming language to generate UIs with graphing / charting capabilities.
  • Solid Ethernet and TCP/IP background.
  • Skilled at using Wireshark tool is a plus.
  • Experience in installing and debugging open source Linux software packages and applications.
