Fiber inspection and optical power measurement are combined into a single seamless handheld device with the new JDSU HP3-60 display system.
Milpitas, Calif., February 10, 2009 – JDSU today announced the release of the HP3-60 integrated power meter and display system for fiber inspection and testing.
The new JDSU HP3-60 display system combines fiber inspection and optical power measurement into a single handheld device. Integrating these two fundamental optical tools into one handheld device results in a significant increase in workflow efficiency and decrease in total inspection and test time.
The HP3-60 system, derived from the popular HD3 series, provides high-quality image resolution in a compact, portable design. The integrated power meter offers quick, easy, and accurate field measurements of optical power and attenuation. Easy push-button operation makes the device simple and straightforward to use, while the inspect-test process procedure establishes optimal workflow practices.
“JDSU leads the industry in promoting Inspect Before You Connect best practices when handling optical connectors,” said Matt Brown, director of product management in the JDSU Communications Test and Measurement business segment. Brown added, ““By joining together two of the most basic fiber optic tools into one low-cost unit, we enable technicians to avoid the number one cause of network downtime: contaminated fiber."
A probe and patchcord microscope on the HP3-60 allows users to visually see the end-face of a fiber optic connector on a 1.8 inch TFT LCD, while an optical power meter measures the power of an optical signal. The HP3-60 will also work in tandem with the JDSU T-BERD®/MTS 4000, 6000, 8000 systems. Any technician who is handling fiber can perform the most essential functions with this tool.
