Introducing the New JDSU TrueSpeed™ Automated TCP Test for the T-BERD®/MTS-6000A and 8000 Platforms with MSAM

Save 20 percent or more OpEx and eliminate finger-pointing

MTS-6000A with TCP ThruputTraditionally, providers install Ethernet services using RFC 2544 or other types of Layer 2/3 tests, but the customer’s business applications run on the TCP layer. This gap in testing results in customer complaints/churn and significantly increases operating expenses (OpEx) for service providers because of additional truck rolls per service activation.

Introducing the industry’s first, innovative automated TCP layer throughput test, TrueSpeed that resolves this problem and is based on a JDSU-sponsored, standards body methodology.

This innovative automated TCP test from JDSU enables service providers to resolve this problem running traditional RFC 2544 installation tests and a quick TCP test during the same truck roll with the same skill-level technician. Customer case studies show that the TrueSpeed test methodology prevents future truck rolls and saves at least 20 percent of the overall installation OpEx.

“JDSU has a long history of looking over the shoulders of our customers and providing innovative solutions to difficult problems observed. One such issue centers around Layer 2 and 3 tests failing to catch network configuration issues that affect the most important end customer demand—application performance and throughput. Our TrueSpeed innovation provides a very simple test to identify this complex service-affecting problem,” said Jerry Gentile, Senior VP of JDSU Instruments Division.

Major communications providers (including XO Communication) have successfully used the JDSU TrueSpeed automated TCP test to validate TCP layer performance for their end customers, who consistently challenge the service level agreement (SLA) performance results of RFC 2544. XO Communications is a leading communications provider for businesses, enterprises, government, and service providers. “For XO customers who did not accept the SLA performance results of our traditional Layer 2 installation test (RFC 2544), running the JDSU TrueSpeed test as standard practice during Ethernet installation helped validate TCP layer performance and resolved finger-pointing issues”, says Joe St. Clair, VP of Operations at XO Communications.

TrueSpeed is available for both the JDSU T-BERD/MTS-6000A and T-BERD/MTS-8000 Multi-Services Application Module (MSAM).

Benefits of the TrueSpeed TCP Automated Test include:

  • Provides application performance measures for SLA confidence. Unlike all other Layer 2 and 3 RFC tests, TrueSpeed can identify subtle network issues that can lead to application performance degradation.
  • Enables one-button, fully automated TCP testing. Lets even inexperienced technicians perform TCP throughput tests fast and reliably.
  • Automated test provides consistent results. Following the automated test TCP methodology, service providers and end-users can conduct repeatable tests with comparable results.
  • Emulates up to 64 users/sessions at up to 10 GigE with real TCP traffic. Ensure that realistic end-customer TCP window sizes can be tested on high bandwidth and high latency links.
  • Advanced traffic shaping tests. Verify proper traffic shaping, which is key for optimized service performance over WAN/Metro networks.

The JDSU T-BERD/MTS 6000A MSAM is the most compact 10 GbE multifunction tester for installing and maintaining next-generation Carrier Ethernet and IP services. It offers field applications for servicing Metro core telecommunications networks, wireless/cable switch centers, backhaul networks, and telecommunications and network equipment.
