Milpitas,California, May 8, 2007 – JDSU today announced that three of the company’s communications test solutions – supporting digital video, VoIP and high-speed data services – scored big in this year’s Diamond Technology Reviews rating sponsored by Broadband Gear Report (BGR). Judged by a panel of seasoned industry representatives, the JDSU products evaluated included the digital service activation meter (DSAM)’s ability to perform DQI, or digital quality index, which received a 4.5 out of a possible five. JDSU’s PathTrak Forward Path Monitoring for analog and digital channels used for triple-play services, as well as the NetComplete QT-600 Ethernet and Triple Play probe for IPTV, graded a 3.5.
The judges included Wayne Hall, vice president of engineering for Comcast; Tom Gorman, vice president of operations engineering for Charter; Vicki Marts, director of video engineering, COX; Dermot O’Carroll, senior vice president of network engineering and operations, Rogers; and Gene White, vice president of engineering for Bright House.
JDSU will display these new features, as well as its entire portfolio of award-winning test and monitoring solutions for cable operators, at SCTE’s 2007 Cable-Tec Expo, Orlando, booth #1286 .
“JDSU is honored that our test and measurement tools were rated highly by a set of esteemed judges from top MSOs pulled together by Broadband Gear Report, one of the leading industry publications,” said Kevin Oliver, vice president of marketing for JDSU’s cable networks business unit. “JDSU is proud for the recognition. We continue to develop the tools, solutions and innovations that help operators take-on the complex deployment challenges for quality digital video, high speed data and VoIP services.”
“The three JDSU products all received very solid scores from our judging panel,” said Laura Hamilton, editor-in-chief at Broadband Gear Report. “DQI received particularly high marks for its simplicity of use, and its ability to provide the ‘heightened awareness’ necessary to completely troubleshoot a problem.”
About the JDSU Products in the Diamond Technology Review 2007
- DQI: JDSU’s DQI is a ground breaking new measurement that is a drastic improvement over current standards and available only on the digital service activation meter (DSAM). DQI measurements enable providers to quickly and accurately identify network impairments that affect digital services such as high definition TV.
- PathTrak Forward Path Monitoring: JDSU’s PathTrak hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) test and monitoring portfolio has added the PathTrak Forward Path Monitoring Solution. This new addition monitors and trends performance of forward path carriers at remote cable hubsites and headends to quickly identify issues and remotely segment RF performance, preventing unnecessary truck rolls and increasing workforce efficiency.
- QT-600 Ethernet and triple-play probe: Part of JDSU’s NetComplete service assurance IPTV offering, it is the only test solution on the market to address quality of service (QoS) from the head end into the home.
