New Facility Drives Collaborative Innovation for Next Generation Broadband Networks
Milpitas, California, U.S.A. and Shenzhen, China, December 6, 2011 – JDSU today announced that it has opened a new broadband network development center in Shenzhen, China, to strengthen its research work around advanced test and measurement and optical communications products. A ceremony took place today that marked the official opening of the facility in the Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park.
JDSU established its R&D presence in Shenzhen in 2000. Its move to the new facility in Shenzhen represents a commitment of more than RMB20 million. The facility includes 6,000 square meters of floor space and currently employs a staff of more than 250 employees, with capacity to expand to over 400 employees. The location is at the heart of the local telecom ecosystem and convenient to the talented Shenzhen technology workforce.
“The new Shenzhen site demonstrates JDSU’s commitment to China and other high-growth markets in the Asia-Pacific region,” said David Heard, president of JDSU’s Communications Test and Measurement business segment. “The Shenzhen center, together with its other research facilities worldwide, position JDSU close to its customers for effective collaboration that drives the innovation needed for the development and deployment of next generation broadband networks.”
Shenzhen Site Develops Building Blocks for Self-Aware Networks
Rapidly growing volumes of video and other high-bandwidth traffic require “self-aware” networks that can be managed with greater agility, reliability and higher performance standards. JDSU’s Shenzhen site designs various optical components and communications test solutions needed by communications network equipment manufacturers and service providers for the development and deployment of self-aware networks.
The site includes communications test and measurement and optical communications labs equipped with world-class research equipment and network infrastructure. The center’s research and development efforts drive solutions that simplify network management, reduce deployment and operating costs, and improve the quality of communications services.
JDSU’s R&D team in Shenzhen has contributed to the development of test instruments including the SmartClass™ and T-BERD/MTS™ 5800, 6000 and 8000. Optical components designed and developed at the site include high power pump laser module products, modulator products, circuit packs, and transmitter/receiver components. These and other components developed at the Shenzhen site support a recently introduced portfolio of self-aware optical network solutions to be rolled out by JDSU in the second half of 2012.
