San Jose, California, March 1, 2006 – JDSU today announced the release of its SmartClass family of access field testers, a new set of high-performance point solutions that help carriers efficiently test broadband access networks. Included in the portfolio are the SmartClass ADSL for ADSL 1/2/2+ testing and the SmartClass OTS-55 optical test set for dark fiber installation and troubleshooting. The products will be on display at CeBIT 2006 in Hannover, Germany, March 9-16 (booth B20, Hall 13) and OFC/NFOEC 2006 in Anaheim, California, March 5-10 (booth 2323).
Addressing existing customer needs and anticipating future requirements of the access test market, JDSU’s SmartClass handheld field test tools are rugged, portable, complete solutions for field testing in the outside plant. They provide powerful yet economical test solutions for FTTx/PON, DWDM, CWDM, and xDSL technologies. The SmartClass portfolio provides the right tool for the job at hand, verifying broadband connectivity and service through the access network to the customer premise. Combining ease of use with a rich feature set, JDSU's SmartClass tools have been designed to help bridge the gap between the demands of broadband triple-play service testing and the need to reduce capital and operational expenses.
“Leveraging more than 20 years of experience in the handheld test market, JDSU designed its SmartClass testers to address the full-range of requirements for network installers today,” said Helmut Berg, senior vice president of JDSU’s Test and Measurement group. “Whatever the technology-specific access test requirements, the SmartClass handheld tools provide what our customers need to accelerate the deployment of triple-play services. Adding to our existing world-class portfolio of testers, JDSU offers the industry’s broadest portfolio of communications test instruments, systems and services.”
SmartClass ADSL
Announced today, the SmartClass ADSL tester addresses the demand for a simple and economical handheld point solution for ADSL 1/2/2+ services testing and basic copper qualification. Meeting the needs of service provider technicians who do not require a modular solution or in-depth triple-play services testing, the SmartClass ADSL is a low-cost single function test tool meeting these limited needs and is more economical and practical for large-scale ADSL deployments. As with the entire platform of testers, the SmartClass ADSL is suitable for less experienced field technicians thanks to its easy-to-use, ruggedized design.
SmartClass OTS-55
Also introduced today, the SmartClass OTS-55 optical talk set facilitates dark fiber communication between two fiber head ends. To set up a communication link, the OTS-55 can either be used in a set of two instruments or as a single unit working together with a JDSU MTS-8000 or OFI-2000 at the far end. Used for fiber optic installation and troubleshooting, the OTS-55 offers the best performance/size ratio on the market and has greater than 45dB of dynamic range. The OTS-55 gives network operators independent visibility into network configurations at the wavelength and data services level and simplifies installation and maintenance.
There are more than 70,000 previous-generation units of JDSU’s optical handhelds platform currently in the field, making it one of the most widely and successfully deployed handheld test instruments in the industry. JDSU’s new SmartClass product line, offering the industry’s best specifications on the market in terms of accuracy, ease-of-use, and durability, includes power meters, optical attenuators, laser sources, loss test sets, and return loss meters.
