Working demos of metro access solutions and datacom transceiver modules at N+I
San Jose, California and Ottawa, Canada – April 29, 2003 – JDS Uniphase today announced the WaveReady™ Series of optical access products that can be installed in minutes and includes a CWDM solution that helps lower network costs for large enterprises and metro service providers. JDS Uniphase will be featuring these products, as well as their datacom transceivers, in working demonstrations at JDS Uniphase’s booth at NetWorld+Interop in Las Vegas, April 29 - May 1.
As network traffic continues to increase, service providers have been adopting dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems to expand capacity for metro core applications. For metro access applications, coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) typically meets the required capacity but costs less than DWDM. JDS Uniphase’s WaveReady platform has interchangeable modules to provide CWDM, DWDM or both CWDM/DWDM in a single platform.
“As a stand alone solution, WaveReady is affordable, expandable and offers a wide range of capabilities for enterprises and metro service providers that are trying to increase utilization or provide new services,” said Don Bossi, president of JDS Uniphase’s Transmission Products Group. “In addition, WaveReady is a simplified access solution that complements the offerings of larger system equipment manufacturers”
The new CWDM line cards for the WaveReady series include a bi-directional 1310 nm input / 15xx nm output regenerator, a bi-directional 850 nm input / 15xx nm output regenerator, and an 8-channel mux/demux.
Other new line cards for WaveReady include a DWDM bi-directional ITU 1310 nm input / 15xx nm output regenerator and an optical protection switch.
In addition to CWDM and DWDM, the WaveReady Series fits a variety of applications including wavelength services, amplification, protection switching, reach extension, 1310/1550 overlay and Gigabit Ethernet services.
The WaveReady 3500 is the most flexible platform in the family, and can be configured with up to 14 line cards offering a range of functionality. It has an auto-sensing capability and push button set-up that allows installation in minutes. Competing systems require parameters to be set individually and manually.
The WaveReady 3100 is a smaller, 1U-sized, two line-card platform that is planned for release in the summer. It reduces cost, saves space and is designed for use in conjunction with the WaveReady 3500 in large enterprises or metro applications.
The WaveReady 2000 Series offers focused, service-optimized solutions for specific applications: Gigabit Ethernet extension, path protection switching and optical demarcation.
The WaveReady Series is the latest addition to JDS Uniphase’s Network Ready Products. The Network Ready Products group has supplied optical solutions to service providers for over 10 years and in approximately 40,000 installations.
Availability
The WaveReady 2000 and 3500 are available immediately from JDS Uniphase in the U.S. and Canada. The CWDM solution will be available in May, and the WaveReady 3100 is expected in the summer.
At NetWorld+Interop
In addition to the metro access solutions, JDS Uniphase will also be exhibiting their line of 1-10 Gb/s optical data transceivers for Fibre Channel or Ethernet SAN or LAN applications. XENPAK, X2 and XFP transceivers will be shown in a working demonstration at booth #4547.
