Flexible Network Modules Achieve Interoperability With Leading Operations Support System
San Jose, California – March 22, 2004 – JDS Uniphase (NASDAQ: JDSU and TSX: JDU) today announced that core modules in its WaveReady™ Series of optical access products have completed the comprehensive Telcordia™ OSMINE process for interoperability with Telcordia operations support systems (OSS) .
Completing the OSMINE process helps ensure that network products such as the JDS Uniphase WaveReady™ Series are interoperable with Telcordia developed core OSSs, which support about 80 percent of established North American telecommunications infrastructures. Smooth interoperability facilitates uninterrupted network operation for service providers using these Telcordia OSSs.
Service providers can save money by using products that have completed the OSMINE process for interoperability because these products are fully compatible with existing equipment and they can be integrated without additional development or technology.
All JDS Uniphase WaveReady™ CWDM (coarse wavelength division multiplexing) products – WSH 500/510, the WaveReady™ Communication Module, and the Light Protector 530 optical protection module – are Telcordia OSMINE compliant. They have completed the compatibility certification process for the following:
- The Telcordia™ NMA® system, which addresses network monitoring and surveillance operations support system.
- The Telcordia™ TIRKS® system, which is an integrated system that supports the total network provisioning process for special service circuits, message trunks, and carrier circuits. The TIRKS system also provides inventory management of facilities and equipment, potentially reducing costs of network equipment maintenance.
“OSMINE Services testing minimizes the impact of OSS integration for new network equipment and creates automated solutions which enable service provider customers to maximize the benefits of new network technologies,” said Dennis Tinley, senior vice president, NEP Solutions, Telcordia Technologies, Inc. “JDS Uniphase’s participation in the OSMINE Services process supports this vision and allows incumbent carriers to enhance their networks with multi-service metro optical transport.”
“With completion of the OSMINE Services process, JDS Uniphase WaveReady™ partners and customers can now deploy carrier-class solutions for metropolitan wavelength services with the confidence that they are interoperable with the OSSs used by the majority of service providers,” said Thomas Znotins, senior vice president of the JDS Uniphase Subsystems Products Group.
About WaveReady™
The JDS Uniphase WaveReady™ Series is a modular solution of low-cost modules for service providers in metro, access and enterprise optical networks. WaveReady™ modules give providers a single solution for their diverse optical networking needs using WaveReady™ any-rate SAN/DATA/Video connection types, CWDM or DWDM wavelengths, protection (port, equipment, line), amplification, 3R regeneration, and in-channel remote management and telemetry. A configurable platform, WaveReady™ can support multiple channels at speeds from 6 Mb/s to 2.7 Gb/s per channel with the ability to manage and provision individual channels locally or remotely via the WaveReady™ Node Manager. Through the use of a modular, plug-in card-based configuration, the WaveReady™ family offers service providers a convenient, simple, and incremental way to add additional capacity and capabilities as their needs grow.
The WaveReady™ system contrasts with larger, more costly systems in that WaveReady™ needs only simple, plug and play integration for just the wavelength(s) being used in the customer’s network. This modularity allows service providers to reduce costs and integration efforts by using only those modules for each unique customer network.
