System Developers Gain Greater Cost-Saving and Power
Western Show, Anaheim, California – December 4, 2003 – JDS Uniphase (NASDAQ: JDSU and TSX: JDU) today announced the xEMT 2100 Series of next generation 1550 nm externally modulated transmitters for CATV and FTTx original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system integrators. This series of transmitters gives customers cost-effective network transmission of broadband video and data signals and continues JDS Uniphase’s tradition of technological leadership in the CATV and FTTx markets.
The xEMT 2100 Series includes several performance enhancements which allow network system designers to implement networks with fewer erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) and with lower power EDFAs, thus lowering the overall system cost.
Compared to existing transmitter designs available in the market, the new xEMT 2100 Series of transmitters offers enhanced carrier-to-noise and distortion performance, adjustable SBS suppression specified for launch powers up to +18 dBm through 65 km of fiber, additional features that enable long distance transmission, low power consumption, and improved reliability. Together, the company believes these features provide customers with greater design flexibility as well as additional savings.
“We believe the xEMT 2100 transmitter is ideal for system developers who want a robust transmitter design but do not want the associated research and development investment related to implementing their own design,” said Don Bossi, president of JDS Uniphase’s Transmission Products Group. “At the same time, because JDS Uniphase manufactures optical components for CATV, we are able to design those components such that they optimally interoperate with this and other CATV transmitters. JDS Uniphase manufactures more 1550 nm externally modulated CATV transmitters than any other company so our design and manufacturing experience allows us to offer the best combination of price, performance, and delivery.”
Models are available for all channel plans, including NTSC, PAL, and CENELEC, and for operation over a variety of link budgets, from less than 40 km and up to 150 km. The xEMT 2100 Series transmitter is available in a compact 1RU rack mount form factor with optional custom front panels.
The xEMT 2100 Series can draw power from either AC or DC sources and utilizes world class JDS Uniphase high-power CW source lasers and lithium niobate modulators.
