Ottawa, Canada and San Jose, California – September 8, 2002 – JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU and TSX: JDU) announced today it has joined the multi-source agreement (MSA) created by Fujitsu Quantum Devices, Ltd. for 10 Gb/s optical receivers. Receivers are required in increasingly smaller form factors and higher performance to meet the stringent design requirements of MSA-based transponders. Multi-source agreements are a way to meet these needs and ensure reliable supply for customers.
The multi-source agreement specifies the maximum receiver package outline, pin function definitions, and pin locations for 10 Gb/s receiver modules with single-mode fiber pigtails. The flange mount package is approximately 18.5 x 10 x 5.5 mm in size. The compact differential package specified reduces space requirements in transponder cards while the location of the pins in the back end of the receiver facilitates transponder design. JDS Uniphase prototypes are expected to be available in November 2002.
