San Jose, California – February 9, 2004 – JDS Uniphase (NASDAQ: JDSU and TSX: JDU) today announced the Optical Channel Monitor (OCM) for developers of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems for long haul and metro networks. The 68 mm x 96 mm x 15.8 mm embedded, integrated OCM cost-effectively monitors real-time wavelength, power and, if desired, OSNR performance in complex networks in the C- and L-band wavelength ranges.
The new OCM uses high-dispersion volume phase grating spectral elements and has the smallest footprint of any comparable monitor. The Telcordia 1209/1221-qualified OCM does not have any moving parts, resulting in a design that is both lower cost and more reliable.
JDS Uniphase’s new OCM design includes a photodiode array detector that allows for high-speed parallel processing and continuous spectrum measurements. Unlike tunable filter monitors, the OCM’s high speed makes it suitable for all aspects of channel monitoring. In addition, the athermal design provides stable performance over operating temperatures between 0° C and 70° C.
Customers can measure up to 80 channels simultaneously at 50 GHz at high accuracy rates, +/- 0.5 dB power accuracy and +/- 30 pm wavelength accuracy. In addition, the OCM is flexible as its small size is well-suited for integration into new system designs. A version of the OCM is also available for legacy systems.
Availability
The OCM is available for order from JDS Uniphase representatives worldwide. First customer shipments began in December 2003.
