NFOEC, Baltimore, July 9, 2001—JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU and TSE: JDU) today announced the introduction of Continuous Wave (CW) and Directly Modulated (DML) source lasers for fiberoptic telecommunications systems operating in the L-band. While most fiberoptic telecommunications systems currently operate in C-band frequencies, system designers have begun to target the L-band as an alternative for capacity expansion and for system upgrades to keep up with the projected growth in network traffic. The new L-band source lasers complement JDS Uniphase’s current line of C-band lasers and provide for a variety of applications in the long-haul, metro, access, and CATV markets.
The CQF 935 CW laser is designed for WDM systems and is available in the 1530-1610 nm range in both 0.8 nm (100 GHz) and 0.4 nm (50 GHz) spacing. It includes a thermo-electric cooler, optical isolator, and polarization-maintaining fiber and is available in 10 mW and 20 mW optical output powers. It is suitable for external modulation at 2.5, 10, and 40 Gb/s. The CQF 975 CW is designed for DWDM systems and includes an integrated wavelength reference module.
The CQF 915 DML is a 1550 nm laser designed for 2.5 Gb/s WDM systems. It features a thermo-electric cooler and built-in cooled isolator. It provides 10 mW optical output power and is available with either 1800 or 3240 ps/nm dispersion.
Availability
The CW lasers and the DML lasers in the 10 mW version are available now over the full C- and L-bands. The 20 mW CW laser is available now over the full C-band and also in the L-band starting with selected wavelengths. Typical lead times are 6-8 weeks after receipt of order. Pricing and specific delivery information can be obtained through JDS Uniphase representatives.
