Ottawa, Canada and San Jose, California – March 13, 2002 – JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU and TSE: JDU) today announced the addition of five new cassettes to its modular test and measurement Multiple Application Platform (MAP) for fiberoptic manufacturers. The new power meter, DFB laser, tunable grating filter and two electro-optic (E/O and O/E) cassettes add to the existing attenuator and optical switch cassettes to significantly expand MAP’s application capabilities. MAP is the first full-featured modular test system that combines optical and electro-optical measurements in a single platform. With the new cassettes, MAP significantly contributes to decreasing the cost of fiberoptic manufacturing. MAP’s modularity, with hot-swappable and interoperable cassettes, facilitates manufacturing flexibility and minimizes down time. The new cassettes are:

• MAP Power Meter Cassette – power measurement range up to 1 W, with both single and dual channel options
• MAP Tunable Grating Filter Cassette – 0.25 nm bandwidth, covering 1420 to 1630 nm and able to handle up to 1 W optical power
• MAP DFB Laser Source Cassette – 1.5 nm tuning range, dual or single channel cassettes with outputs of 10 or 20 mW
• MAP 10G E/O Transmitter Cassette – 10 Gb/s data rate compliant, covering 1531 to 1565 nm with output powers from – 0.4 to 1.4 dBm
• MAP 10G O/E Receiver Cassette – 10 Gb/s data rate compliant, covering 1290 to 1565 nm with optical power measurement covering – 25 dBm to 1 dBm

The MAP cassettes are designed to interoperate in ways that make the most of the individual instruments. For example, MAP can coordinate the power meter and tunable filter cassettes so that they function as a very simple optical spectrum analyzer (OSA).
