Diode-pumped Solid State Laser is 50% Smaller, Requires Less Power
San Jose, Calif. -- December 19, 2001 -- JDS Uniphase Commercial Lasers announced today its S-Series Diode-Pumped Solid-State (DPSS) laser for the biomedical instrument market. The product is 50% smaller than previous designs and features a controller that requires less power and produces less heat than other available models. As a result, it is easier to integrate into instruments and helps save space and cost.
The CDPS532-S (The S Series) is a continuous wave 532 nm laser for OEM system integration applications. It provides an output power of 10mW with less than 0.5% noise. The reduced-size design consists of a 76mm x 28.5mm x 40mm head and a 111mm x 63mm x 22mm controller. The controller is so efficient that it does not need the bulky heat sinks required by other models. Life testing (still ongoing) has reached one year without failures and with only minimal degradation.
The S Series DPSS has multiple applications in the biomedical industry. For example, it can be used as an illumination source for instruments such as DNA sequencers and flow cytometers. It can be more easily integrated into these and other instruments due to its small size, efficiency and good performance.
The S Series is based on a single-longitudinal mode, frequency-doubled Nd:Vanadate diode-pumped laser. It provides a laser beam with excellent mode quality, low noise and very good beam pointing stability. The laser beam is not collimated by a telescope to allow for the small package size. The controller operates with a basic interface to allow again a small housing.

The CDPS532-S Diode-Pumped Solid-State laser is available now from JDS Uniphase Commercial Laser representatives worldwide. Lead-time is about 8 weeks after receipt of order. Shipments will begin in January 2002.
