Unique three-laser wavelength testing and 10 mm InGaAs detector provide broader testing capabilities, reduce ownership cost
Ottawa, Canada and San Jose, California – March 19, 2002 – JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU and TSE: JDU) today announced the availability of two new features for its industry-leading RX3 series multichannel backreflection meters: three-laser wavelength testing and a 10 mm InGaAs detector. The RX3 measures insertion loss and backreflection for single fiber connectors, as well as multifiber ribbon cables.
Three wavelength testing
The RX3 now contains a third internal laser, allowing cable connector and passive components manufacturers to measure wider optical wavelength ranges when testing components and connector assemblies. This is key because today’s new standards require the manufacturers to qualify their products over a wider range of wavelengths. The RX3 measures 7 different output sources, from 850 nm and 1310 nm multimode to 1310 nm, 1480 nm, 1550 nm, 1625 nm, and 1650 nm single-mode.
The addition of a third laser is a unique innovation for the industry. Since the RX3 now includes a wider range of wavelength testing capabilities in one unit, the product is more cost-effective and reduces testing time.
10 mm InGaAs detector
The 10 mm InGaAS detector measures high-count 24-channel ribbon cables. This is a key benefit for ribbon cable and component manufacturers since fiber packaging continues to evolve and packing density is increasing.
A competitive differentiator is that the detector is built in to the product. Additionally, while the 10 mm detector adds increased span of power detection, the product retains its industry-leading capability to measure low backreflection at –75 db.
The RX3 meter with these new features is now available. Lead time is approximately four to six weeks after receipt of order.
