San Jose, California, and Ottawa, Ontario – February 10, 2003 – JDS Uniphase Corporation (NASDAQ: JDSU and TSX: JDU) today announced the appointment of Syrus Madavi, President and Chief Operating Officer to its Board of Directors.

Prior to joining JDS Uniphase in July 2002, Mr. Madavi served in various senior executive and board positions with high technology companies. He was a Senior Vice President at Texas Instruments; Chairman, President and CEO of Burr-Brown Corporation, and Executive Chairman of ON Semiconductors. Earlier he held senior executive positions with Raytheon Semiconductor and Honeywell Signal Processing.
The appointment of Mr. Madavi increases the JDS Uniphase Board to nine members. Seven are independent, including a non-executive Chairman of the Board.
