Ottawa, Canada and San Jose, California – December 5, 2001 – JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU and TSE: JDU) today announced that Kevin Kennedy, chief operating officer of Openwave Systems, and Richard T. Liebhaber, retired executive vice president and chief technology officer of MCI Communications, have joined the Company’s Board of Directors.

Prior to joining Openwave, Kennedy spent seven years at Cisco Systems and 17 years at Bell Laboratories. At Bell Labs, Kennedy held a variety of research and development roles and also served as a technical advisor to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology while on leave from Bell Labs. At Cisco, Kennedy was the senior vice president of the Service Provider Line of Business and Software Technologies Division. He also serves on the board of Quantum Corp.
During his tenure at IBM, Liebhaber was the director of Business Policy and Development after serving in Engineering, Manufacturing, Product Test, Service and Marketing positions. In 1985 he joined the Office of the Chairman at MCI Communications, Inc. and became executive vice president and chief technology officer. Liebhaber serves on the boards of KPN/Qwest, Avici Systems, Inc. and ILOG Inc.
