DTS-330 and DTS-200 Digital Test and Measurement Solutions Support Video Compression System R&D and Technical Support
San Jose, CA, September 9, 2005 - JDS Uniphase Corporation (NASDAQ: JDSU; and TSX: JDU), the worldwide leader in broadband test and measurement solutions, today announced that Harmonic is using its DTS digital video broadcast analyzers to support their efficient and accurate deployment of several digital video services. With JDS Uniphase’s DTS-330 and DTS-200 video analyzers, Harmonic, a leading provider of broadband optical networking and digital video systems, extends its already long-standing use of Acterna test solutions which have been recently acquired by JDS Uniphase.
JDS Uniphase’s digital video broadcast and cable networks test solutions will be on display at IBC, September 9-13, Amsterdam, Hall 8, Booth 8.314.
Renown for providing a high level of reliability and accelerating time-to-market for its customers, Harmonic needs accurate test and network measurement solutions to facilitate the rapid deployment of high-quality services for its customers. For the last eight years, Harmonic has relied on the DTS MPEG analyzers to monitor signal quality and implement complex broadband TV services. Harmonic is broadening its use of the DTS-200 and DTS-330 to support its R&D initiatives.
“At Harmonic, it is critical that analysis of our digital signals are accurate before we go live with a broadband video network,” said Kevin Davey, director of service and support for the Convergent Systems Division of Harmonic Inc. “In the event a signal problem occurs, we must be able to quickly identify the source and fix it. JDS Uniphase’s DTS digital test product line helps streamline the troubleshooting process and perform high quality digital broadcast stream analysis and field troubleshooting.”
“Harmonic is the strategic broadband infrastructure solutions partner for many of the world’s top broadband service providers,” said Sudeep Bose, product marketing manager for JDS Uniphase’s DTS Product Line. “We are pleased that our DTS line of MPEG test and measurement solutions continue to meet Harmonic’s requirements, providing them the accurate measurements they need to build today’s broadcast TV networks.”
In the race to provide a triple play of voice, video and data services over IP networks, JDS Uniphase’s test and network measurement solutions are used by major operators around the world. Troubleshooting is made easier with the knowledge that the DTS product delivers digital video services measurements that have established it as one of the most accurate in the industry.
Harmonic delivers scalable, open-standards solutions for broadband headend operators in the cable, satellite, terrestrial, telecom, and wireless industries. The company’s products are integral to the development of new revenue sources and competitive advantages from powerful interactive video, voice, and data services such as high definition digital television, video-on-demand, telephony, and Internet access.
About the DTS-200 and DTS-330
JDS Uniphase’s DTS-200 allows digital network operators and associated equipment vendors to gain remote visibility into their MPEG streams and perform various test applications to identify problems with equipment and content. A powerful remote test solution, the DTS-200 provides a simple and rapid means to access and analyze digital video (DV) data. The DTS-330 is a “one-box” solution that offers several different combinations of MPEG (digital video broadcast, or DVB, and advanced television systems committee, or ATSC) transport stream generation, capture, creation, and analysis. Its applications range from R&D validation to system deployment and troubleshooting.
