New Product Provides Bold Metallic Effects for Automotive, Cosmetic and Consumer Manufacturers
Milpitas, Calif., May 11, 2011 – JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU and TSX: JDU) announced it has added the new
Bright Silver HSA (High Surface Area) pigment to its
SpectraFlair® product line. The latest addition offers a silver-metallic finish at a significantly lower applied cost. The pigment can easily be blended with other pigments to create custom colors and the HSA design reduces flake thickness by one third, increasing hiding power, or its ability to cover a substrate.
Bright Silver HSA is an extension of the existing Bright Silver pigment from JDSU, and is produced by depositing fine layers of magnesium fluoride and aluminum on ultra-smooth PET film. This vacuum coating process produces the highest reflectivity and brightness, along with excellent shear stability. End-use applications for Bright Silver HSA include cosmetic and personal care packaging, household appliances, consumer electronics and automotive topcoats.
“The new Bright Silver HSA pigment provides brand managers with brighter silver-metallic effects compatible with current application processes without losing any of the required performance characteristics,” said John Book, Custom Color Solutions product manager for the AOT business segment at JDSU.
Key benefits of the JDSU SpectraFlair® Bright Silver HSA pigment include:
- Superior value – Customers will use two-thirds less pigment as compared to original Bright Silver pigment to achieve the same eye-catching silver-metallic effect.
- Brighter metallic effects for plastic packaging - This is the only vacuum metalized flake suitable for plastic molding.
- Vacuum deposition manufacturing platform – Pigments are created using a proprietary production method to produce pigments of the highest brightness and quality.
- Pre-wetted, easily dispersed composition – Pigments are in the form of tiny flakes wetted with propylene glycol ether that easily disperse into paints and plastics.
More about JDSU SpectraFlair Pigments
Introduced in 2002, SpectraFlair® pigment uses JDSU light-manipulating Color by Physics® technology. By controlling the flake’s physical dimensions and surface microstructure, SpectraFlair® pigment can generate a wide variety of appearances from bright rainbow-producing prisms to pure silver-metallic color. Brand owners worldwide use SpectraFlair® pigment to differentiate their products.
